Q: How do I request extra patrol of my residence while out of town?

A: Please come to the Police Department during normal administrative hours to fill out a request for extra patrol of your residence while out of town or away. The Inglis Police Department makes every effort to provide additional patrols of residences but makes no guarantee of the effectiveness or frequency of these patrols. Residents are encouraged to take responsability for the security of their personal property by taking certain precautions prior to leaving the residence for extended periods. Some of these precautions are:
  • Put your mail on hold with the Post Office while you are away. If you have home delivery of a newspaper, place this on hold as well.
  • Lock all doors and windows, securing sliding glass doors with a lock rod or poll.
  • Put a few lights on a timer so they will turn on at different times throughout the evening (some timers have a dual time setting on/ off as well).
  • Have a neighbor or someone you trust check the residence and property for any strangers or strange vehicles lurking about.
  • Motion activated security lighting...enough said.

A: We as Law Enforcement Officers rely heavily on good relationships with the citizens in our town. Daily, we at the Inglis Police Department recieve "tips" or information from the good and decent citizens of the Town of Inglis regarding criminal activity and illegal narcotic sales. Any citizen who wants to help the Inglis Police Department in its mission to IDENTIFY, INVESTIGATE and ERADICATE the drug sales and manufacturing within the Town of Inglis and its surrounding communities is urged to contact any of the Officers of the Inglis Police Department.

Secondly, be a good witness and observer. Information is key to any investigation into drug sales and the information you provide aids in that investigation. Several key things to look for are:

  • Heavy foot and vehicle traffic to a centralized location or residence, especially if the visits are short in nature.
  • The tag or plate numbers for the visitors vehicles are not as important as the tag of the sellers or manufacturers vehicles. Customers may come and go but the dealers will stay awhile.
  • Frequent burning of trash or constant open buring pits of trash, especially on cleared lots. Also, heavy amounts of trash which would be inconsistent with the typical family.
  • Call the police immediately when you believe there is criminal activity happening if it is safe to do so. If it is not safe then be a good witness. Identify the suspect(s) and their vehicles making sure to get a tag and clothing description.
  • Call the police immediately if there is a strong "chemical smell" in the air, however infrequent. Do not attempt to locate the source of the smell and stay out of the area.
  • Call the police immediately if you find any tanks (commonly used propane tanks) discarded or hidden in any remote or unusual areas. These tanks are commonly used to house chemicals used to produce Methamphetamine and is highly toxic, DO NOT TOUCH!
  • Lastly, do not confront the person(s) you suspect are doing illegal activities. Law Enforcement Officers are properly equipped and trained to deal with criminals on a day to day basis.
